Dear Sawyer Free Library Patrons:

Look what donors to the Sawyer Free Library’s Annual Appeal made possible!

As a member of the Gloucester community, you can take pride in how your Library has put its Annual Appeal income to work.  We took the money raised, combined it with a vision of our future library and a lot of elbow grease and transformed the Main Floor.  Fresh paint, new carpeting, more quite space and room to read…

Take a walk upstairs and visit the newly situated Reference Department.  Note the new and more comfortable computer stations and word processors.  Notice a little more color? A little more room?

If you have a young child, you’ve already been amazed by changes in the Children’s Library.  You came in last summer just to pick up some books, but then noticed the air conditioning and the new carpet underfoot, the new floor cushions your toddler was already settling into, and you thought maybe you’d stay awhile.  Our painter was equally amazed. He was busy freshening the walls, but had no idea that so many parents and young children frequented the Children’s Library, had no idea of the hundreds of programs that take place there, had no idea how such a small space managed to accommodate so many children.  He told the administration he’d be happy to volunteer his time to keep painting the Children’s Library.

We are on the move!  Putting a fresh face on a tired old interior boosts everyone’s vision of our future.  But there is so much more to be done.  We’d like to extend the carpet into the staff work space.  (The staff, by the way, provided all the elbow grease that cleaned, rearranged and transformed your library.)  You know the Sawyer Mansion is in urgent need to repair and paint.  Our book budget is always under-funded.  We continue to run programs that are standing room only.  All of this costs money.

You’ve already seen what a difference donors can make.  Your contribution will enable the Sawyer Free Library to continue in its 176th year as the literary and information center of Gloucester .

Sincerely,

Mary Jane McGlennon                                                Roger Brisson

P.S. Will you consider writing your most generous check this year?
