Helping the Library

Support for the Sawyer Free Library, through gifts or in volunteering, is essential for the successful ongoing operations of the library. Individual gifts, in the form of direct contributions to the library or through bequests, can be made at any time. The most significant fund-raising event of the year is the Annual Appeal. This special event provides library supporters with the opportunity to contribute a financial donation as part of a larger fund-raising effort. The gifts from the Annual Appeal make up a critical part of the library's budget, permitting it to make capital improvements and to fund a myriad of programs and events. Information on giving and volunteering can be found below.

Annual Appeal

As a member of the Cape Ann community, you can take pride in how your Library puts its Annual Appeal income to work. We took money raised from Annual Appeals to make significant improvements to the Sawyer Free Library this year including the Main Floor, Reference Department and Children’s Library.

Volunteering

The library depends on the many hours generously donated each week by volunteers. The range of their support is very broad - from shelving books, creating displays, answering telephones, maintaining special research files and collections, assisting children with projects, processing books and other materials, mailing program announcements, planting flowers, and many other tasks. Everyone who uses the library benefits from their generous donation of time and energy. Anyone wishing to participate in supporting the library as a volunteer can contact Acting Director Carol Gray.
