Civic Hub

The Sawyer Free Library, as it has for over 175 years, aspires each day to serve the information and cultural needs of Gloucester residents of all ages. In keeping with this, the Library has received a federal “Civic Hub” grant to help us fulfill our mission. The goal of “The Civic Hub” grant is to create a sense of space and community within the Library for civic reflection, dialogue, and engagement by offering informed issue-oriented public programs and opportunities for discussion on topics that are meaningful to the
community. During 2019-2020, the Library will focus on programming concerning three of these topics: Immigration, Journalism and the Public Trust, and The Rising Ocean. Read more about the launch of Civic Hub and upcoming programming.

The grant is generously funded federally by The Institute for Museum and Library Services and distributed by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
